Marble Sculpture Course – Pietrasanta 2026

In the artists’ town of Pietrasanta, in the heart of Tuscany’s marble region, I offer small-scale marble sculpture courses. The course is suitable for both beginners and more experienced participants. No prior experience in sculpture or stone carving is required.

We work in a small group of five to six participants, which allows plenty of room for personal guidance. Everyone works at their own level and on their own design. You begin by making a model and then work step by step towards the final sculpture.

During the course, you learn how to work marble, from the first sawing and carving to refining and finishing the form. You become familiar with working with hammer and chisel, power tools and pneumatic tools. Safety and technique go hand in hand throughout. Beginners learn the full process from rough stone to sculpture. More experienced participants deepen their technique and refine their way of working.

The studio is located about five hundred meters from the piazza in Pietrasanta. The workspaces are outside under a roof, providing shelter from both sun and rain. Tools, machines and safety equipment are available. As a participant, you only need to purchase your block of marble.

Mini-excursions and pranzo di lavoro

A regular part of the course is the mini-excursions during the lunch break. Twice a week, we visit studios or workshops in and around Pietrasanta. This gives you an insight into the daily practice of sculptors and introduces you to the professional environment in which marble is worked.

Before visiting a studio, we often have lunch in one of the small restaurants where mainly local Italians eat. This is the so-called pranzo di lavoro: a simple but freshly prepared hot lunch at a modest price. These are places you would not easily find as a visitor, but they are part of the daily rhythm of the town.

Lunch is at your own expense.

Sculpting in Italy is about more than learning technique. It means working with focus in a town where art is part of everyday life. The combination of intensive work, exchange and inspiration makes the course a special experience for many participants.
